Bed leveling: manual vs. automatic

This is the single biggest quality-of-life difference between budget and mid-range printers. Manual leveling means adjusting screws by hand before every print (or every few prints) to keep the nozzle at a consistent height across the bed — doable, but a real source of failed first layers for beginners. Auto bed leveling (often listed as "ABL" with a sensor like a BLTouch or strain-gauge system) handles this automatically and is worth prioritizing if you're new to 3D printing.

Build volume vs. your actual projects

Listings lead with build volume (e.g., "220x220x250mm") because it's an easy number to compare, but bigger isn't automatically better — larger beds take longer to heat, are more prone to warping on big prints, and cost more. Check what you'd actually print before paying extra for size you won't use.

Open frame vs. enclosed

For filament listings themselves, look for stated moisture-sealed packaging; filament that's absorbed humidity in transit is a common cause of stringy, inconsistent prints regardless of how good the printer is.
